Who is Krishna?

Krishna is God, the Supreme Person. His name means “the all-attractive one”, because everything good and beautiful comes from Him.

He has a beautiful blue form, plays a flute, loves cows and is the best friend of everyone, including you!

?

Who am I?

You are not just your body. You are a soul, a tiny spark of life that lives inside.

Śrīla Prabhupāda explained that the body is like a car and the soul is the driver. When we grow up, the body changes, like changing clothes, but you are still you!

?

What is bhakti?

Bhakti means loving Krishna. You already know how to love your family and friends. Bhakti is giving that love to Krishna too.

You can sing His names, draw Him, help at the temple, or say thank you to Him before you eat.

What is the Gītā?

The Bhagavad-gītā is a very special conversation. Krishna spoke it to His friend Arjuna before a big battle, when Arjuna felt confused and sad.

Krishna helped him understand who he really was and what to do. It still helps people all over the world today.

True Stories of Brave Devotees

These stories come from the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, an ancient book about Krishna and His friends.

A brave boy

Prahlāda

Prahlāda was a little boy whose father was a powerful but cruel king. The king hated God, but Prahlāda loved Lord Viṣṇu with all his heart. Even when his father tried to hurt him, Prahlāda kept praying. Finally the Lord appeared as Nṛsiṁhadeva, half man and half lion, and protected him.

Lesson: Krishna always protects His devotees.
A strong friend

Govardhana Hill

When the villagers of Vṛndāvana stopped a big ceremony for Indra, the king of heaven, Indra became angry and sent a huge storm. Little Krishna lifted the whole Govardhana Hill with one finger, like an umbrella, and everyone and all the cows stayed safe and dry for seven days.

Lesson: Trust Krishna, not pride.
A determined boy

Dhruva

Dhruva was only five years old when he felt hurt and went to the forest to find God. With the help of the sage Nārada, he chanted and meditated with all his heart. The Lord was so pleased that He came to see Dhruva Himself. Dhruva felt so happy that he no longer wanted anything else.

Lesson: Sincere prayers are always heard.
A dancing hero

Krishna and Kāliya

A huge poisonous serpent named Kāliya lived in the Yamunā river, making the water poisonous for everyone. Krishna jumped into the river and danced on Kāliya’s many heads until the serpent gave up. Kāliya left, and the river became clean and safe again.

Lesson: Krishna removes what harms us.
Sing Along

The Happy Mantra

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama
Rama Rama Hare Hare

This mantra is made of Krishna’s names. You can sing it loudly with drums and cymbals, or softly by yourself. Try singing it before bed!
